The Road to the Tournament: Latest Big 12 Men’s Basketball Standings

As the calendar turns to mid-April 2025, the road to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament is firmly in the rearview mirror. The final Big 12 standings determined the seeding for the conference tournament, which has since concluded, and the NCAA Tournament has crowned its champion. Houston unequivocally led the pack, finishing the regular Big 12 season with an impressive 19-1 conference record. Their dominance made them the top seed in the Big 12 Tournament and a No. 1 seed in the subsequent NCAA Tournament.  

Behind them, Texas Tech secured the second seed in the conference tournament with a strong 15-5 Big 12 record, earning a high seed in the NCAA Tournament as well. BYU and Arizona both finished with identical 14-6 conference records, earning them strong seeds in both tournaments. Iowa State rounded out the top tier with a 13-7 conference record, also securing a notable seed.  

Kansas finished sixth with an 11-9 conference record, still earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament, albeit with a lower seed than the top teams. Baylor and West Virginia both finished at 10-10, with Baylor also making the NCAA Tournament field.  

The Big 12 proved to be a strong conference once again, sending a total of seven teams to the 2025 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament: Houston, Texas Tech, Iowa State, Arizona, BYU, Kansas, and Baylor. This strong representation highlights the depth and competitiveness of the conference throughout the 2024-25 season.  

The Big 12 Tournament, held in Kansas City from March 11-15, saw these teams battle for conference supremacy heading into the NCAA Tournament. Ultimately, Houston capped off their impressive season by winning the Big 12 Tournament championship, defeating Arizona in the final.  

While the road to the 2025 NCAA Tournament has ended, the final Big 12 standings leading into March Madness underscored the strength of the conference and the teams that ultimately represented it on the national stage. Houston’s dominance, along with strong performances from Texas Tech, BYU, Arizona, and Iowa State, set the stage for an exciting postseason.
